Sofiya Nzau

Sofiya Nzau, born Sophia Wanjiku in rural Murang'a County, is a groundbreaking singer-songwriter who has become a global sensation by fearlessly infusing traditional Kikuyu language lyrics into contemporary Afro-house and electronic dance music (EDM).

Her journey from working as a street vendor and domestic helper in Thika to becoming a multi-platinum artist is a remarkable testament to her talent and determination.

Discovered after uploading vocal "sound packs" online during the pandemic, she found her signature sound that bridges ancient culture with modern dancefloors, with her powerful, soulful voice making history on the global stage.

In a historic first, she became the first Kenyan and East African artist to perform at Tomorrowland 2025, one of the world's most iconic EDM festivals in Belgium, sharing the stage with superstar DJs like Steve Aoki.

Her global hit "Mwaki", a collaboration with Brazilian DJ Zerb, continued its monumental run, becoming the most-streamed Kenyan song on Spotify with over 315 million streams by July 2025 and earning platinum certifications in multiple countries.

Further expanding her global footprint, her track "Your Love (Antdot Remix)" was selected for the official soundtrack of EA Sports FC 26, a major international football video game, marking another significant milestone for Kenyan music on the world stage.

Currently, she has over nine million monthly listeners on Spotify, the largest in East Africa, and has worked with global artists such as Diplo, Steve Aoki, and Avaion.
